Agriculture Program: Building Youth Livelihoods Through Sustainable Farming and Moringa Production
From Farming to Economic Opportunity
Dream Village’s Agriculture Program integrates sustainable farming, youth training, and agribusiness development to create both livelihoods and food security.
Through moringa production, agroforestry, and a vocational training center, we equip young people and communities with the skills and systems needed to generate income while improving nutrition and protecting the environment.
Three Integrated Agriculture Initiatives
Moringa Production Program
Dream Village launched its moringa project in 2020 in Rwamagana to improve community nutrition and create income-generating opportunities.
Moringa is known as the “miracle tree” due to its high nutritional and medicinal value.
- Moringa powder
- Moringa tea
- Moringa oil
- Moringa seeds and capsules
- 120+ community members trained
- Improved nutrition and immune health
- Income through moringa value chains
- Current: 500kg per season
- Target: 1,000kg per season by 2027
Agroforestry Program
Dream Village’s agroforestry program integrates trees into farming systems to improve soil health, biodiversity, and income opportunities.
Research conducted with local farmers shows that agroforestry provides multiple benefits including nutrition, income, livestock support, and environmental protection.
- Fruit trees (avocado, mango, citrus)
- Fodder trees for livestock
- Timber and firewood trees
- Medicinal plants
- Improved soil fertility and crop productivity
- Increased household income from tree products
- Enhanced climate resilience
- nutrition improvement
- income generation
- environmental sustainability
Vocational Training Center (VTC)
The Vocational Training Center is a hands-on training farm where youth and farmers learn modern, organic, and sustainable agriculture practices.
- Organic farming
- Agribusiness
- Crop production and planning
- Composting and soil management
- Post-harvest handling
- Kitchen gardening for household nutrition
- Market-oriented farming
- Organic fertilizer and pest management
- Agribusiness and income generation
- Increased agricultural productivity
- Reduced malnutrition
- Youth transitioning from subsistence to agribusiness

For young people, especially those living with HIV, agriculture provides a stable and accessible pathway to independence.
From Small-Scale Farming to Scalable Agribusiness
Dream Village’s agriculture model combines production, training, and market access into a scalable system.
With increased investment, this model can expand to reach more communities and contribute to Rwanda’s food security and youth employment goals.
